Erik Mowinckel is a Norwegian photographer who grew up in a suburban area outside Oslo. His first few years of photographing involved him and a friend of his staging photographs of each other in spaces that they saw as photogenic. This somehow evolved to how he works today, walking around, searching for something to photograph without preconceived ideas about what he’s looking for.
Even though he works spontaneously, he claims to have tendencies and preferences that repeat themselves across individual images. One example is the idea of filling the frame with something “singular”, in the sense that all the attention is directed towards one event, though there will always be a background behind whatever the subject might be.
Today he’s based in Oslo and recently quit his job in a photo-copy store and spends the spring days walking around taking pictures. More to see on his website & flickr.
